Cajun Patty Melt
We caramelized the Trinity, y’all! This deli classic has a brand new attitude. Ça c’est bon!!
Ingredients
2/3 pound lean ground beef
2 teaspoons Creole seasoning
1 teaspoon olive oil
5 tablespoons butter
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 stalks celery, halved and thinly sliced lengthwise
1 onion, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
2-3 dashes of Louisiana hot sauce
4 slices Jewish rye bread
4 slices white American cheese
Instructions
Add Creole seasoning to ground beef and form two thin, oblong rectangles slightly larger than the circumference of your bread.
Heat a skillet over high heat. Add olive oil and fry patties for 2 minutes per side. Remove patties from skillet, top each with two pieces of cheese, and set aside to rest on a paper towel-lined plate.
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium low heat. Add sliced bell pepper and celery and sauté for about 5 minutes. Add sliced onion, salt, and sugar, and reduce heat to low. Sauté for another 25 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add mayonnaise and hot sauce. Stir to combine. This is your caramelized Trinity.
Place a cheese-topped patty on a slice of bread. Top with half of the caramelized Trinity and another piece of bread. Melt a tablespoon of butter over medium low heat, and grill the sandwich, about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden.
Add the last tablespoon of butter to the skillet and grill the second sandwich.
