Second City Sausage Pizza

 

Deep dish sausage pizza, the way the Second City intended it!

Ingredients

1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter

1 pound fresh pizza dough

12 ounces sliced mozzarella

1 pound loose Italian sausage

1 1/2 cups crushed tomatoes

1/4 cup grated Parmesan

Instructions

  1. Position an oven rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 450F.

  2. Coat bottom and sides of a 12-inch cake pan with melted butter. Spread out the dough across the bottom and up the sides of the pan.

  3. Cover the dough with sliced mozzarella.

  4. Cover the mozzarella with an even layer of sausage.

  5. Top with crushed tomatoes, spread to the edge.

  6. Sprinkle the top with grated Parmesan.

  7. Bake, rotating halfway through, until golden around the edge, about 25 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes, then serve.
