Uncle Carl Calamari

Get squiddywidit and enjoy this appetizer that we created in honor of the illustrious, incomparable Carl Camagna!

Ingredients

1 pound frozen calamari tubes, defrosted and sliced into rings

1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1/4-1/2 cup vegetable oil

Italian parsley, chopped

Lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Pat calamari rings completely dry.

  2. Combine flour, salt, and Italian seasoning and dust all your rings in the seasoned flour.

  3. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a sturdy, deep pan until it reaches about 350F.

  4. Drop about 10 rings in the oil and gently move them around with a slotted spoon or small strainer.

  5. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, remove them from the oil, drain your lightly golden rings on a paper towel lined baking sheet, and sprinkle with salt.

  6. Repeat and fry 10 more rings until you’re done.

  7. Pile your calamari high, garnish with some chopped Italian parsley, and serve with lemon wedges.
