Char Siu Bacon
Up your bacon game with this unique, sticky, Chinese-style porky goodness!
Ingredients
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon Chinese oyster sauce
1/4 cup maple sugar
1 teaspoon Shaoxing rice wine
1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
3 drops natural red food coloring
8 slices peppered thick cut bacon
Nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350F. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin, ketchup, oyster sauce, maple sugar, Shaoxing, ginger, Chinese five-spice and red food coloring.
Place the bacon on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the top of the bacon with the mixture and bake until sticky and mahogany, 25 to 30 minutes.
Apply a liberal layer of cooking spray to a wire rack. Once baked, Immediately transfer the bacon to the greased wire rack to cool for at least 1 hour.
